Tiger Moth Frame

$100.00

This custom curiosity is a Tiger Moth (Areas galactina), sustainably sourced from Indonesia. This specimen features bold, patterned creamy-white forewings paired with a vibrant yellow and bright red abdomen. It is mounted on a solid black background inside an ornate, arched gold frame flanked by real dried floral accents. Equipped with both an easel back and a hanging hook, this display offers versatile options for styling on a tabletop or mounting to a wall.

Fun Facts: Commonly known as the "Milky Tiger Moth," this species is a master of defense. While its bright colors visually warn daylight predators of its foul taste, it has an even cooler trick for night shift hunters like bats. Tiger moths possess specialized structures on their thorax called tymbals. When they detect a hunting bat's echolocation sonar, they quickly click these structures to emit high-frequency ultrasonic sounds. This acts as an acoustic warning billboard in the dark, letting bats know they are highly toxic and definitely not a tasty snack.

Please note: This piece features an upcycled, thrifted frame. Minor imperfections on the frame or glass may be present due to age and character. All pieces are carefully cleaned and repaired while preserving their vintage character.

Disclaimer : This specimen was sustainably sourced and passed naturally. Each specimen may not be in perfect condition due to the life it lived. Learn more about how specimens are sourced by clicking here
